Static Water Pressure, Measurement of Pressure and Bursting Pressure

Water pressure is an important factor in plumbing systems. It determines how water flows through pipes and reaches different fixtures such as taps, showers, and tanks. Static Water Pressure

For example, in a building supplied by an overhead water tank, the static pressure at the ground floor will be higher than the pressure at the upper floors because the height of the water column is greater.

Pressure Gauge

Manometer

A manometer is another device used to measure pressure. It works by balancing the pressure of water against a column of liquid, usually mercury or water. The height difference in the liquid column indicates the pressure level.

Test gauges are portable instruments used by plumbers to check water pressure in pipelines and plumbing systems during installation or maintenance.

Understanding bursting pressure is important when designing plumbing systems. Pipes and fittings must be selected based on their pressure rating to ensure safe operation. Using pipes with insufficient pressure capacity may result in pipe failure and water damage.

Manufacturers usually specify the maximum working pressure and bursting pressure for pipes. Plumbers must ensure that the operating pressure in the system remains well below the bursting pressure to maintain safety.

Proper pressure management helps protect plumbing systems and equipment. Some important safety precautions include:
