The Plumber trade under the Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) requires adequate infrastructure to deliver effective training and develop professional skills among trainees. Infrastructure plays a crucial role in providing the necessary environment, equipment, and facilities required for theoretical learning as well as practical skill development in plumbing technology.

The Directorate General of Training (DGT) has established clear guidelines regarding the infrastructure requirements for institutes conducting the Plumber CITS course. These guidelines ensure that training institutes maintain uniform standards and provide a safe and productive learning environment for trainees.

Proper infrastructure includes classrooms, plumbing workshops, tools, equipment, power supply, and other training facilities that support effective skill development. A well-equipped training center helps trainees gain hands-on experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair work.

Training Area and Space Requirements

Training institutes conducting the plumber CITS course must provide sufficient space to accommodate trainees and equipment. According to the infrastructure guidelines, a minimum area of approximately 120 square meters is required for the plumber trade training facility.

This space is used to establish plumbing workshops, practical training stations, and demonstration areas where trainees can practice plumbing operations. Adequate space ensures that trainees can perform practical tasks comfortably without overcrowding or safety risks.

Proper space planning also allows instructors to organize workstations, tools, and equipment efficiently, which improves the overall training experience.

Classroom Facilities

Theoretical knowledge is an essential component of plumbing training. Therefore, training institutes must provide well-equipped classrooms for delivering theoretical instruction related to plumbing systems, tools, materials, and safety practices.

Classrooms should be well ventilated, properly illuminated, and furnished with desks, chairs, and writing boards. Modern classrooms may also include multimedia facilities such as projectors, computers, and audio-visual equipment to support interactive learning.

Teaching aids such as charts, diagrams, and models of plumbing systems help trainees understand complex concepts related to water supply systems, drainage layouts, and plumbing components.

Plumbing Workshop

The plumbing workshop is the most important part of the training infrastructure. It is where trainees perform practical tasks and develop hands-on skills in plumbing installation and maintenance.

The workshop should be equipped with workbenches, pipe fitting stations, and demonstration setups where trainees can practice pipe cutting, threading, bending, and joining operations.

A well-designed workshop environment allows trainees to simulate real-world plumbing tasks, which helps them gain confidence and practical competence in performing plumbing work.

Tools and Equipment

Plumbing training requires a wide range of tools and equipment for performing installation and repair operations. Training institutes must provide sufficient tools so that all trainees can practice effectively during workshop sessions.

Common plumbing tools include pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, threading machines, pipe bending tools, hacksaws, files, spanners, measuring instruments, and drilling machines.

In addition to hand tools, workshops should also include specialized equipment used in plumbing installations such as welding machines, pipe threading machines, pressure testing devices, and pump installation setups.

Providing modern tools and equipment ensures that trainees learn the latest techniques used in the plumbing industry.

Pipe and Plumbing Material Storage

Training institutes must also provide proper storage facilities for plumbing materials such as pipes, fittings, valves, and fixtures. Organized storage helps maintain the quality of materials and ensures that they are easily accessible during training sessions.

Materials used in plumbing training may include PVC pipes, GI pipes, copper pipes, CPVC pipes, elbows, tees, couplings, and valves. Storing these materials systematically improves work efficiency and prevents material damage.

Water Supply and Drainage Setup

A functional water supply and drainage system is necessary for practical plumbing training. Workshops should include demonstration setups that allow trainees to install and test water supply pipelines and drainage systems.

These setups may include water tanks, pumps, valves, and testing pipelines used for training purposes. Trainees can practice installing water supply systems, performing leak tests, and troubleshooting plumbing problems.

This type of practical setup provides real-life experience in handling plumbing installations and repairs.

Power Supply Requirements

Plumbing workshops require electrical power to operate machines and equipment used in training. According to infrastructure guidelines, the plumber CITS training facility requires approximately 16 kilowatts of electrical power.

This power supply is needed to operate machines such as drilling machines, welding equipment, threading machines, and pumps used in plumbing installations.

Proper electrical wiring and safety measures must be implemented to ensure safe operation of equipment in the training workshop.

Safety Equipment and Facilities

Safety is an important aspect of plumbing training. Training institutes must provide safety equipment to protect trainees during practical sessions.

This includes fire extinguishers, first aid kits, safety helmets, gloves, protective footwear, and eye protection equipment. These safety measures help prevent accidents while trainees are performing plumbing operations.

Instructors must also ensure that trainees follow proper safety procedures and use protective equipment during training activities.

Importance of Infrastructure in Skill Development

Adequate infrastructure plays a significant role in the quality of vocational training. Well-equipped training facilities allow trainees to gain practical experience and develop professional skills required in the plumbing industry.

When trainees have access to modern equipment and realistic training setups, they are better prepared for real-world work environments.

Infrastructure also supports effective teaching by allowing instructors to demonstrate plumbing operations clearly and guide trainees during practical exercises.

Conclusion

Infrastructure is a fundamental component of the Plumber CITS training program. Proper facilities, tools, equipment, and workshop setups ensure that trainees receive comprehensive training in plumbing technology.

By providing adequate space, modern equipment, and safe training environments, institutes can effectively prepare trainees for professional careers in the plumbing sector.

Well-developed infrastructure also helps maintain high standards of vocational education and supports the development of skilled instructors who can train future plumbers in technical institutions across the country.
